Throughout their journey, Gon and his friends embark on an adventure that puts them through many hardships and struggles. To attain their own goals and desires, together the four of them take the Hunter Exam, notorious for its low success rate and high probability of death. As they wait, a raid by The Shadow ends the festivities. Along the way to becoming an official Hunter, Gon befriends the lively doctor-in-training Leorio, vengeful Kurapika, and rebellious ex-assassin Killua. The Battle Olympia tournament at Heavens Arena is about to begin Gon, Killua, Kurapika and Leorio plan on watching the matches. Another side-effect of Hunter X Hunter’s unique writing system and naming conventions is how difficult it is to pin down Gon’s deceptively easy-to-pronounce surname. However, Gon soon realizes the path to achieving his goals is far more challenging than he could have ever imagined. For simplicity’s sake, fans and translators stick to the initial and more familiar English translations. Twelve-year-old Gon Freecss is determined to become the best Hunter possible in hopes of finding his father, who was a Hunter himself and had long ago abandoned his young son. Hunter x Hunter (2011) is set in a world where Hunters exist to perform all manner of dangerous tasks like capturing criminals and bravely searching for lost treasures in uncharted territories. While their motives vastly differ from each other, they band together for a common goal and begin to venture into a perilous world. During the Hunter Examination, Gon befriends the medical student Leorio Paladiknight, the vindictive Kurapika, and ex-assassin Killua Zoldyck. Believing that he will meet his father by becoming a Hunter, Gon takes the first step to walk the same path. What drives 12-year-old Gon Freecss is finding Ging, his father and a Hunter himself. Ambitious participants who challenge the notorious exam carry their own reason. Before becoming a Hunter, one must pass the Hunter Examination-a high-risk selection process in which most applicants end up handicapped or worse, deceased. Hunters devote themselves to accomplishing hazardous tasks, all from traversing the world's uncharted territories to locating rare items and monsters.
